Credits
Ciarla’s words, sentences, grammar explanations, stories and chats are written for Ciarla. These sources and tools helped us build them.
Word frequencies
The selection and order of words is based on the Italian frequency list from FrequencyWords by Hermit Dave, derived from the OpenSubtitles 2018 corpus, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. We lemmatised the list (grouped word forms under their dictionary form). Our adapted frequency list is shared under the same license; write to contact@perastro.com for a copy.
Lemmatisation used the Morph-it! morphological lexicon by Marco Baroni and Eros Zanchetta as a tool; no part of it is included in the app.
Levels
Grammar levels were checked against the CILS syllabus of the Università per Stranieri di Siena and the B1 programme of the Università di Padova, as references.
Fonts
Bricolage Grotesque (Mathieu Triay) and Figtree (Erik Kennedy), both under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
Voices
Voice chat voices: Microsoft Azure AI Speech neural voices. Other audio uses the voice built into your phone.
Software
Ciarla is built with React Native, Expo and Supabase, among other open source software, used under their respective licenses (mostly MIT and Apache 2.0).
